Assam has significantly expanded its medical infrastructure in recent years, and the state now offers 1,650 MBBS seats across 13 government colleges, including AIIMS Guwahati.
Gauhati Medical College, Guwahati (earlier affiliated with Gauhati University), and Assam Medical College, Dibrugarh, offer the highest number of MBBS seats in the state – 200 each. The NMC increased AMC Dibrugarh’s intake from 170 to 200, while GMC Guwahati’s seats rose from 156 to 200 under the EWS quota in 2019.
