There is only one Government and one Private MBBS College in Meghalaya. These colleges offer 50 Government MBBS seats and 150 Private MBBS seats. Among them, the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS), Shillong, is the oldest and most prestigious institute in the state. It is widely regarded as the top medical college in northeastern India.
Admission to MBBS in Meghalaya is based entirely on NEET‑UG scores. The state counselling is conducted via the North East State Counselling Authority (NESCA), and NEIGRIHMS manages its own seat allotment based on NEET rank and domicile quota.
