Telangana MBBS Counselling 2026: Eligibility, Web Options, Fees and Free Exit

Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences (KNRUHS), Warangal, runs MBBS counselling for Telangana’s Competent Authority Quota (CQ) seats. Candidates register, complete document verification and submit college preferences through online web options. MCC runs a separate process for All India Quota seats.

2026 update, checked on 18 October: KNRUHS (knruhs.telangana.gov.in) published the CQ MBBS mop-up allotment on 15 October 2026. Allotted candidates must follow the reporting deadline in their allotment order. The CQ free-exit window closed at 2 pm on 8 October. Read the exit and non-reporting conditions before leaving or declining a seat.

This guide focuses on CQ admission. Management quota has separate notices, eligibility conditions and deadlines.

Who runs MBBS counselling in Telangana?

Register separately for the process you qualify for. An MCC application does not count as a KNRUHS application. Also check the authority shown against your particular college and seat; do not apply the usual AIQ/state split to every institution.

Our MCC counselling guide explains the national process. Use the Telangana MBBS college list to research institutions, then check the current counselling matrix for available seats.

Who can apply for Telangana state quota?

You must qualify NEET UG 2026 and meet the age, educational and local-status conditions. The prospectus lists these NEET qualifying scores:

CategoryQualifying percentileMinimum score
General / UR / EWS50th213
PwD: General / UR / EWS45th194
SC / ST / BC, including their PwD categories40th177

You must be at least 17 by 31 December 2026. The qualifying examination must include Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology and English. The prospectus specifies science-subject minimums of 50% for OC/EWS, 40% for BC/SC/ST and 45% for OC/EWS PwD.

Clearing the NEET qualifying score does not guarantee admission. Allotment also depends on eligibility, merit, category, web options and available seats.

Local status: understand the four-year rule

For CQ eligibility, the local area is Telangana. The ordinary study route requires at least four consecutive academic years in Telangana, ending with the year you appeared, or first appeared, for the relevant qualifying examination.

A residence route also exists where a candidate did not study in an educational institution during the whole or part of the relevant four-year period. It requires four years’ residence immediately before the qualifying examination. The qualifying-examination location condition must also be checked under the prospectus. Do not use residence as a general substitute for schooling outside Telangana.

Specified exceptions cover eligible children of Telangana government employees, Telangana-cadre IAS/IPS/IFS officers, defence or CAPF personnel, and employees of Telangana government corporations or agencies with transferable service. The parent’s service outside Telangana must correspond to the child’s study outside the state. Supporting service evidence is required.

For example, a student who studied Classes 9 and 10 in Hyderabad and Classes 11 and 12 in Andhra Pradesh does not meet the ordinary four-year study condition. She should check whether a documented exception applies before claiming local eligibility.

Our state quota counselling guide explains how state eligibility differs from MCC admission.

Seat categories and community certificates

Government state-quota seats and private Category A seats fall within the CQ process. Management and NRI seats follow separate management-quota notices.

CQ seats in participating Muslim minority medical colleges are reserved for Muslim minority candidates under the notification. Eligible Muslim minority candidates can also compete for CQ seats in other colleges.

Use the Telangana community certificate required for your claim. For BC reservation, KNRUHS specifies BC-A to BC-E certificates; a central OBC certificate is not a substitute. SC certificates must identify the relevant Group I, II or III.

Check your recorded category after verification. A category selected in an application is not proof that the supporting certificate has been accepted.

How registration, web options and joining work

The main steps are:

  1. Register and pay the processing fee. The notified amount is ₹4,000 for OC/BC and ₹3,200 for SC/ST, with bank transaction charges extra.
  2. Upload the required records. Complete the online verification process and respond to any document query.
  3. Check the merit list. Read later additions, corrections and eligibility restrictions as well as the original list.
  4. Submit web options. Rank eligible colleges in the order you prefer them. Keep your registered phone available for OTPs and save a copy of the submitted options.
  5. Check the allotment. Verify the college, course, quota and reporting instructions.
  6. Pay the university fee and download the allotment order. The university fee is ₹12,000. Candidates who already paid and slide in the mop-up phase do not pay it again.
  7. Report to the allotted college. Submit original certificates and the required bonds, pay the applicable tuition or college fees, and complete joining before the deadline.

Payment alone does not finish admission. Keep the allotment order, payment receipts and joining acknowledgement together.

Who could participate in the mop-up phase?

The CQ mop-up notice excluded candidates who had skipped first-phase web options. It also excluded candidates who had received earlier allotments but did not report, or who discontinued after joining.

Candidates who had joined and were continuing in an earlier CQ seat could submit mop-up options, subject to the other conditions. Candidates admitted through MCC up to its third phase, as recorded by MCC, were ineligible.

These are the conditions in the mop-up notice. Check any later phase through its own notification rather than assuming the same participation rules continue unchanged.

Sliding to another college

If KNRUHS allots a new seat through sliding, the earlier seat is cancelled automatically. You cannot assume that you may inspect the new allotment and then choose to keep the old one.

For mop-up sliding, follow the instructions for relief from the previous college, the custodian certificate, fee collection and reporting to the new college. Keep only options you would accept if allotted.

Was there free exit in Telangana NEET UG counselling?

Yes. KNRUHS allowed candidates admitted up to the second CQ phase to discontinue without penalty during a specified window.

PointCQ MBBS rule for 2026
Deadline8 October 2026, 2 pm
ProcedureApply to the college principal for discontinuation
College fees and certificatesThe notice directed principals to return original certificates and the entire fee paid to the college
University feeSeparate from college fees; the mop-up instructions state that it is non-refundable
Further CQ participationCandidates who discontinued could not participate in later CQ MBBS rounds that year
Discontinuation after the deadlineThe applicable penalty clause applies

Free exit did not mean that every payment made to every authority would be refunded. Keep college fees, the university fee and any MCC deposit separate.

The ₹20 lakh penalty and three-year debarment

The CQ mop-up notice states that admitted candidates are not permitted to withdraw after the mop-up phase. It specifies a ₹20 lakh discontinuation penalty and three-year debarment from MBBS admission under KNRUHS for the stated breach.

It also expressly applies the penalty and debarment to candidates who receive a mop-up allotment but do not join. Failing to complete the required joining formalities within the deadline can therefore have serious consequences.

This is a discontinuation or admission-compliance condition. Do not describe it as a rural-service bond. Our MBBS bond checklist explains how to distinguish service obligations, course-leaving conditions and counselling deposits.

How AIQ and Telangana counselling affect each other

The CQ mop-up notice barred candidates admitted through MCC up to the third phase. Being able to access a portal or having submitted options earlier does not override this restriction.

For example, a student who held a Telangana Phase 2 seat and then joined an MCC Round 3 seat could not use the Telangana CQ mop-up to move to another state seat. Any departure from the earlier Telangana seat would also need to comply with its exit conditions.

Track the financial consequences separately. Our MCC security deposit guide covers MCC payments; it does not determine KNRUHS refunds or penalties.

Can I get an MBBS seat with 450 marks in Telangana?

There is no reliable fixed answer based on marks alone. The same score can produce a different rank each year. Your eligibility, category, preferences, college choice and available seats also matter.

Use this comparison method:

  1. Record your NEET All India Rank and verified category.
  2. Open the official KNRUHS college-wise allotment list for the relevant phase.
  3. Match the college, quota and allotment category, including any special reservation.
  4. Compare the same type of rank. Do not confuse state merit position with All India Rank.
  5. Treat historical allotments as context, not a guarantee.

A statement such as “450 marks guarantees a government seat” leaves out too many factors. Avoid choosing colleges or paying for counselling based on that promise.

Our NEET college predictor offers historical Round 1 comparisons. Check its coverage before using a result and confirm Telangana choices against KNRUHS records.

Common questions

Can I still get an MBBS seat in Telangana in 2026?

KNRUHS published the CQ mop-up allotment on 15 October. If allotted, follow your reporting instructions. If you do not hold a seat, check for a further official notice and its eligibility conditions. Do not assume another round or fresh registration will be offered.

Can students from other states apply for Telangana state quota?

CQ applicants must satisfy Telangana’s local-eligibility rules and any applicable exception. Students who do not qualify should examine MCC routes for which they are eligible. Management-quota eligibility must be checked separately.

Is a central OBC certificate valid for Telangana BC reservation?

KNRUHS requires the prescribed Telangana BC certificate for the state claim. A central OBC certificate is not a substitute.

What happens if I do not join a CQ mop-up seat?

The mop-up notice specifies a ₹20 lakh penalty and three-year debarment from MBBS admission under KNRUHS for failure to join an allotted seat. Submit an option only if you are willing and able to complete admission.
