Healthcare Courses After 12th: When NEET Is Not Required

Some healthcare courses use an entrance route other than NEET. The rule depends on the course, university and admission year. “Without NEET” does not mean there is no entrance test or no selection process.

A checked 2026 example: IPU BPT and BOT

IPU’s notice of 23 March 2026 said it would use its own Common Entrance Test for BPT and BOT in 2026–27. BPT is physiotherapy; BOT is occupational therapy.

The notice referred to a national decision to defer the mandatory NEET-appearance requirement for these courses to 2027–28. It also explained how applicants who had used the earlier NEET route would be treated. This was not a promise of direct admission.

Which courses should you research?

Course areaWhat to check before applying
Physiotherapy or occupational therapyYear-specific entrance rule, school subjects and clinical training
NursingBasic or Post Basic course, entrance route and required school or nursing qualification
Laboratory or imaging coursesExact degree title, entry rule, hospital training and course approval
Other allied-health coursesNamed course, recognised qualification and the work it prepares you to do

These are areas to explore, not a list of courses that are NEET-free everywhere. A shared course name does not prove that two colleges use the same entrance rule.

Nursing needs its own check

Our AIIMS BSc Nursing guide and RUHS nursing guide show different routes. Check the exact course and year rather than choosing from an undated “no NEET” list.

Ask these questions before paying

  • Which entrance result or school marks does this course use?
  • Do I meet its subject, marks and age rules?
  • Is this campus approved for the course and intake?
  • Where will practical and hospital training take place?
  • What qualification will I receive?
  • What are the full fees and refund terms?

Choose the work, then the course

Think about the work you want to do and the setting you prefer. Talk to students about their normal week, then check course and fee claims against official records. Keep the prospectus and fee demand before paying.

An allied-health degree has its own role. It does not become an MBBS degree because it includes hospital training. If your goal is MBBS, check the NEET and counselling route for that course instead.
