Mizoram MBBS Counselling 2026: State Quota Process, Categories and Fees

The Technical Wing of the Directorate of Higher & Technical Education (DHTE), Government of Mizoram, runs Mizoram MBBS counselling. This process fills the state quota and NRI quota seats at Zoram Medical College (ZMC), Falkawn. It also handles state quota seats for other courses such as BDS, BAMS and BHMS. MCC, on the other hand, fills the 15% All India Quota (AIQ) seats at ZMC.

Mizoram NEET UG 2026 update (20 October): DHTE held document verification and seat selection on 19 August 2026. ZMC then began state quota MBBS admissions on 25 August 2026. As of today, we have found no Mizoram state quota round notice for October 2026. However, if a seat falls vacant, DHTE would post any new notice. So, check its website before you assume the process is closed.

ZMC itself says it does not allot seats. It admits only students sent by MCC or DHTE. In fact, its admission page says in capital letters not to contact the college for seats.

You also apply separately for each route. An MCC registration does not count for Mizoram. Likewise, a Mizoram claim does not create an MCC application. Our MCC counselling guide covers the national route. For college details, see medical colleges in Mizoram.

How Mizoram MBBS counselling works (it is offline)

Mizoram does not use online choice filling. Instead, the process runs on paper and in person in Aizawl. Here is how it worked in 2026:

  • First, you filled a Report Form at the Technical Wing Office, Chaltlang Lily Veng, Aizawl. The form cost ₹10.
  • Then you attached your NEET UG 2026 scorecard to the form.
  • Next, DHTE published provisional merit lists of everyone who sent a scorecard.
  • After that, DHTE issued a final merit list on 13 August.
  • Finally, candidates came for document verification and provisional seat selection in rank order.

DHTE ranks everyone on one list “irrespective of category”. Also, one list covers MBBS, BDS, BHMS, BAMS, B.V.Sc & AH and BPT together.

Seats at Zoram Medical College

ZMC is the only MBBS college in Mizoram. It started in 2018 with 100 MBBS seats. MCC takes 15% for the All India Quota. Then DHTE fills the state quota and the NRI quota.

For 2026, ZMC’s admission notice called 70 state quota candidates. However, we could not find an official 2026 seat matrix with a full quota split. Because of this, ask the Technical Wing if you need exact numbers. Our seat matrix guide explains how to read seat lists.

Who can apply for Mizoram state quota MBBS

First, you must qualify NEET UG 2026. The qualifying scores are:

  • General/EWS: 50th percentile (213 marks).
  • General PwD: 45th percentile (194 marks).
  • SC/ST/OBC and their PwD: 40th percentile (177 marks).

Also, you must be at least 17 years old on 31 December 2026. You must pass Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English.

Mizoram domicile rules for NEET: the categories

DHTE’s website places state quota candidates in categories. Category I has its own rule. For every other category, you must have passed Classes 11 and 12 from a school in Mizoram that the state government recognises.

CategoryWho it covers
Open CategoryCandidates who belong to any Scheduled Tribe (ST) of Mizoram
Category IChildren of permanent local ST residents who are Mizo (Zo-ethnic people native to Mizoram)
Category IIChildren of permanent local ST residents who are not Mizo
Category IIIChildren of permanent non-ST residents, and children of parents serving the Mizoram Government or its autonomous bodies
Category IVChildren of Central or other state government staff who are not permanent residents but have been posted in Mizoram for at least the last 3 years without a break

Worked example. Suppose your father is a Central Government officer. He has worked in Aizawl for four years, and you did Classes 11 and 12 there. In that case, you would look at Category IV. You would also need his appointment letter at verification.

However, the category page does not show how DHTE shares seats among these groups. We could not confirm the 2026 split. Ask the Technical Wing if your claim depends on it.

Documents for verification

The 2026 verification list asked for originals of:

  • birth certificate and residence certificate;
  • SC/ST certificate, if any;
  • Class 10 marksheet and certificate, and Class 11 marksheet;
  • Class 12 marksheet and certificate;
  • NEET UG 2026 admit card and scorecard;
  • your ID (Aadhaar or EPIC) and your parent’s ID;
  • migration certificate;
  • parent’s appointment letter for Category III or IV, where it applies.

A report of the verification notice mentioned ₹5,000 in cash as security money. We could not confirm that amount from a 2026 primary notice. Check DHTE’s signed notice before you take cash to verification. If you miss a required in-person verification slot, it may hurt your claim to a state seat.

Rounds and exit rules

Mizoram’s process is not the same as MCC’s. For example, there is no online upgrade or “free exit” system like MCC’s. Seat selection happens in person, in rank order. As a result, the choice you make at the desk matters a lot.

Before your slot, rank the courses you would accept. For instance, a student might list MBBS at ZMC first, then BDS, then BAMS. When your rank comes up, you pick from what is still open. If MBBS is gone at rank 60, you move straight to your second choice.

We could not confirm the 2026 rule on refunding the ₹5,000 deposit or any penalty. Instead, ask at the desk what you lose if you leave the seat later. Our counselling rounds guide explains rounds in other states.

AIQ and Mizoram seats

You can take part in both MCC and Mizoram counselling. However, we found no 2026 notice on how an AIQ seat affects your state claim. Ask DHTE before you hold both. Our state quota guide explains the general rules.

Mizoram MBBS fees at ZMC

ZMC&H publishes a fee structure marked “From 2026 Batch onwards.” For state and All India Quota students, the first admission payment totals ₹1,06,500. It has four parts:

  • ₹10,000 in one-time charges;
  • ₹20,000 in refundable deposits;
  • ₹56,100 in recurring first-year charges;
  • ₹20,400 in compulsory hostel rent.

The same fee sheet lists later payments too. These are ₹76,500 for year 2 and ₹78,300 each for years 3 and 4. The final six months cost ₹33,050. For NRI students, it lists ₹30,000 in rupees plus US$20,000 for the first year. Later NRI instalments are in dollars. Always check for an amended college notice before you pay.

First-year fee₹56,100US$20,000

Total₹1,06,500—

State and AIQ candidates should budget beyond the first-year ₹1,06,500 payment. The 2026 ZMC fee schedule lists more charges for each later year and the last six months. The hostel fee is compulsory for the whole course. NRI candidates pay under a separate yearly structure in dollars.

MBBS bond in Mizoram

State quota students must give a bond agreement from the Health & Family Welfare Department, Government of Mizoram. ZMC lists this bond for state quota students only. However, its admission page does not show the MBBS bond amount or service period. Therefore, read the bond in full before you sign it. Our MBBS bond checklist lists the clauses to check.

After allotment

  • Check the course and quota on your allotment letter.
  • Pay the ZMC fee before your admission date.
  • Get the six lab tests ZMC lists, including blood tests, a chest X-ray and an ECG. ZMC accepts results from the last 3 months.
  • Report at ZMC with a parent or guardian on your merit-number date.
  • Then you and your parent take the oath, and you attend the Medical Board check.

ZMC keeps your original documents until you finish the course. Keep scanned copies and photocopies. Our reporting checklist helps with this stage.

Common questions

Is Mizoram MBBS counselling online?

No. In 2026, you submitted a paper Report Form with your NEET scorecard in Aizawl. Seat selection also took place in person.

Can a non-Mizo student get Mizoram state quota MBBS?

Possibly. Category II covers non-Mizo ST residents, and Category III covers non-ST permanent residents. Also, Category IV covers some children of Central and other state government staff. All three need Classes 11 and 12 in Mizoram.

What is the ZMC MBBS fee for 2026?

ZMC lists ₹1,06,500 for the first year for state and AIQ students, including hostel. NRI students pay ₹30,000 plus US$20,000.

Before you budget for ZMC: Your first-year payment is only the start. The college has published a later-year schedule, a compulsory hostel charge and a separate NRI tariff. Bring the admission payment receipt and the documents ZMC lists for your merit date.
