Compare MBBS seats by their entry rules, full fees, payment dates and campus. Start with seats you can apply for and afford. Then decide which one you would rather join.
A deemed university can also be privately run. For this comparison, the useful difference is between deemed-university seats through MCC and private-college seats through state counselling.

Find the counselling route for each seat
MCC conducts counselling for the notified deemed-university MBBS/BDS seats. Private-college seats outside that route usually come under the relevant state counselling process.
For example, West Bengal’s WBMCC lists state, management and NRI medical quotas within its private-college process. NRI means Non-Resident Indian. Each quota has its own entry rules.
Write the counselling authority and quota beside each choice. Use these to find the right form, rules and fee row.
Our deemed-university reference gives background on the MCC route. Our Uttarakhand MBBS counselling guide explains one state’s process.
Check eligibility before comparing prices
MCC’s 2026 bulletin says deemed seats are domicile-free. This means the route has no state-residence requirement. Other entry rules still apply. An NRI or minority seat needs its own proof.
For state counselling, read the conditions for the exact quota. A residence rule for a government state-quota seat may differ from the rule for a private management seat.
Beside each choice, record:
- The quota you can apply under
- The eligibility clause that covers you
- The documents needed to prove it

Compare published tuition for the right quota
These official 2026–27 schedules show how fees differ between named colleges and eligible groups:
| Institution and category | Published annual tuition |
|---|---|
| Nitte, Mangaluru MBBS, general category | ₹20 lakh |
| Amrita School of Medicine, Kochi, general category | ₹25 lakh |
| HIMS, Uttarakhand permanent-resident quota | ₹18 lakh |
| HIMS, other candidates | ₹24 lakh |
Sources: Nitte’s general-category fee schedule, Amrita’s joining instructions and the HIMS fee notice linked from HNBUMU’s counselling portal. These figures are tuition, rather than complete course costs.
At HIMS, the two listed groups differ by ₹6 lakh in annual tuition. The campus is the same; the category changes the bill. Use the row you qualify for.
These examples help you compare specific choices. They do not establish a typical fee for all deemed or private colleges.
Build the full budget from the fee schedule
Read every fee period in the schedule. Multiply one annual rate only if the document says that rate applies to those periods.
Nitte’s schedule gives a useful example. Its MBBS academic fees are:
| Charging period | Published academic fees |
|---|---|
| First year | ₹20,14,500 |
| Second year | ₹20,08,000 |
| Third year | ₹20,08,000 |
| Fourth year | ₹20,08,000 |
| Fifth-year column | ₹10,04,000 |
| Sum of listed academic fees | ₹90,42,500 |
The first-year figure includes ₹6,500 in university fees and ₹8,000 in exam fees. The sum above comes from the published columns; housing, food, travel and any separately charged items still need their own budget.
Other colleges list charges differently:
- Amrita Kochi: its general-category table lists ₹1,81,250 in first-year other fees, ₹94,000 for first-year hostel and mess, and ₹5,000 in admission processing charges.
- HIMS: its notice lists a ₹1 lakh one-time admission fee and ₹2 lakh refundable security deposit. Annual twin-sharing hostel fees are ₹1.08 lakh for non-AC or ₹1.50 lakh for AC accommodation. It also lists mess and other charges separately.
Check which charges are one-time, annual, payable at examinations or due in the final year. If a charge is unclear, ask the college and keep its written reply.
You still need cash to pay a refundable deposit. Show it apart from expected costs, but include it in the sum due upfront. Read the refund rules too.
Add the registration cash to your budget too. The MCC fee and deposit refund guide separates MCC registration fees from deposits and college tuition.
Put both options on one sheet
Use the same headings for each seat:
| Check | Option A | Option B |
|---|---|---|
| College, campus and quota | Exact choice | Exact choice |
| Eligibility | Rule and supporting documents | Rule and supporting documents |
| Tuition by charging period | Published schedule | Published schedule |
| Other required fees | Amounts and payment dates | Amounts and payment dates |
| Housing, food and travel | Your estimate | Your estimate |
| Refundable deposits | Amount and refund conditions | Amount and refund conditions |
| Cash needed at joining | Amount and deadline | Amount and deadline |
| Bond and exit terms | Current forms reviewed | Current forms reviewed |
Write “ask college” wherever a figure or condition is missing. This keeps the gap visible while you gather the answer.
Check when to pay, as well as the total. A family may be able to fund the course over several years but struggle with the amount due at joining. If you plan to use an education loan, confirm when the money can be released.
Read our guide to understanding an MBBS bond before accepting terms you may later need to leave.
Compare the amount due at joining and the steps in the seat reporting checklist before making travel or payment plans.
Check quota proof with the counselling document guide before budgeting on a fee row that depends on your category.
Ask practical questions about the campus
Ask where clinical teaching and postings take place. Find out how students travel between the hostel, classrooms and hospital.
Useful questions for current students include:
- What does a normal teaching week look like?
- How much time do you spend travelling each day?
- Where do students live, and what are the room arrangements?
- Who helps when a student has an academic or accommodation problem?
Students describe their own experience. Check claims about fees and entry rules with the college.
For course approval, check the official NMC record. Match the college, campus, MBBS course and year. Check the campus you would join.
Set your limits, then rank your preferences
Agree on your firm limits first. These could include:
- Maximum cash available at joining
- Maximum course budget
- Housing and travel arrangements that work for you
- Bond and exit terms your family accepts
Then compare the suitable seats. You may prefer being nearer home, a particular campus setup or easier daily travel.
If you already hold a seat, check the rules for leaving or moving from that authority and round. Our MCC counselling rounds guide explains the MCC process. Read the applicable state rules when the other choice comes through state counselling.
Frequently asked questions
Compare the actual seats. The label alone gives you too little information about teaching, total cost or daily life. Choose a seat you qualify for, can fund on time and would be happy to join.
MCC’s 2026 bulletin lists deemed-university eligibility as domicile-free. Other admission requirements still apply, and NRI or minority claims need the required evidence.
Check other required fees, hostel and food costs, travel, refundable deposits, payment deadlines, and bond or exit terms. Your comparison should show both the expected course cost and the money needed at joining.
