For MBBS counselling, start with the authority and quota for your seat. Then check whether you qualify, which papers you need and what you must pay. The answers below help you prepare for registration, choices and joining.

Does qualifying NEET guarantee a government seat?
Qualifying NEET meets one entry condition. A seat still depends on your rank, quota, category, choices and the seats available in that round.
A qualifying cutoff and a college’s closing rank answer different questions. Compare past closing ranks for the same course, quota and category, then list seats you would accept.
Who handles my counselling application?
MCC handles its notified All India Quota, central, deemed, AIIMS and JIPMER seats. State authorities handle the state and private-college seats assigned to them.
The 15% All India Quota and 85% state split applies to participating government-college pools. Check the specific quota for a central, deemed or other special seat.

Which documents should I get ready?
- NEET scorecard and admit card.
- Class 10 and 12 records and proof of age.
- Identity proof and the required photographs.
- Residence or domicile proof where your quota needs it.
- Category, PwBD, NRI or other proof for a claimed seat.
Read your authority’s checklist for the exact format, issue date and copies. Match names and dates across your papers. Check each scan for missing edges, blurred text and unreadable seals.
What if an officer raises a document query?
Open the full remark in your login. Fix the exact issue: for example, replace a blurred scan with a clear copy or obtain the required certificate format.
Send the correction through the stated route before the deadline. Save the reply and check the new status. Uploading a file, having it accepted and completing joining are separate steps.
What if a category certificate is missing or rejected?
Read the rule for that certificate and contact the authority with the exact issue. Ask what proof it accepts and how a correction affects your category or allotment.

How many colleges and seats are in the NMC list?
NMC’s list dated 18 September 2026 contains 839 colleges and 1,40,664 MBBS seats. It excludes institutions of national importance, such as AIIMS and JIPMER.

Can I join MBBS in India without NEET?
MBBS admission in India requires NEET UG and the other entry conditions for the seat. A private or management seat still needs the required NEET qualification.

How long is the MBBS course?
The standard course has four and a half years of study followed by one year of compulsory rotating internship. Keep course length and tuition periods separate when reading a fee schedule.

How much should I budget?
Use the fee schedule for the campus and quota you qualify for. Add tuition for each fee period, required charges, hostel, food and travel. Keep refundable deposits on separate rows.

Can I upgrade or leave a seat?
Read the rule for your authority, round and recorded status. MCC’s 2026 scheme uses Freeze and Float in Rounds 1 and 2, with tighter joining and exit rules later.

What proves that I have joined?
Keep the college’s joining or admission record, fee receipts and accepted-document records with your allotment letter. If a record is pending, ask which step remains and when it is due.
