Jharkhand MBBS Counselling 2026: JCECEB Rounds, Rules and Fees

JCECEB, the Jharkhand Combined Entrance Competitive Examination Board, runs Jharkhand MBBS counselling. It fills the state quota seats in Jharkhand’s government medical colleges. It also fills the All India category and NRI seats in private colleges. MCC, on the other hand, fills the 15% All India Quota seats, AIIMS Deoghar and deemed universities.

Jharkhand NEET UG 2026 update (20 October): JCECEB has published the stray-vacancy state merit list. The state merit-list portal sends eligible candidates to the official online choice-filling portal. JCECEB also runs a separate portal for All India category seats in specified private medical colleges. That portal lists these dates:

  • Choice filling: 19 to 21 October.
  • Provisional letters: 22 to 26 October.
  • College verification/admission: 23 to 26 October.

The two processes are not the same. Check the notice for your own seat category.

You register separately for each process. For example, an MCC registration does not count for JCECEB. Likewise, a JCECEB application does not create an MCC application. Our MCC counselling guide covers the national route. For the full college list, see MBBS colleges in Jharkhand.

Jharkhand stray vacancy round 2026

The stray round follows Round 3. However, JCECEB uses two separate online routes:

  • State merit-list counselling: Go to neetugcet.jceceb.co.in. Then follow its link to neetug.jceceb.co.in.
  • All India category seats in specified private colleges: Read the notices at lcmcneetug.jceceb.co.in.

Each portal has its own deadlines. Do not apply one portal’s deadline to the other.

  • New candidates could apply from 14 October. If you were already on the state merit list, you did not need a fresh application.
  • JCECEB has published the vacant seat matrix for MBBS, BDS and BHMS. Fill choices only from that list.
  • All India category MBBS vacancies follow their own merit list and choice-filling dates.
  • Upgrades ended with Round 3. In other words, treat a stray round seat as a final decision.
  • If you get a seat and do not join, you can lose your security money.

Important: Fill only seats you will join and can pay for. You may not get another chance to fix a wrong choice.

Jharkhand NEET counselling 2026 dates

For the current stray round, the official JCECEB state merit-list page shows the stray merit list from 19 October. It also sends candidates to its online counselling portal. The separate private-college All India category portal lists different steps. Choice filling runs 19–21 October. Allotment letters come out 22–26 October. Verification/admission runs 23–26 October. The earlier-round dates below are past dates. Use the current official portal for any change.

Seat types in Jharkhand

  • Government colleges: JCECEB fills the state quota seats from the state merit list. Reservation applies to these seats.
  • Private colleges: JCECEB fills these seats too, including All India category and NRI seats. Each round has its own seat matrix for them.
  • All India category seats in private colleges: These are not MCC seats. Instead, JCECEB fills them, and students from other states can compete.
  • NRI seats: You need a separate NRI application and NRI documents. Also, bring original documents at admission.

There is no direct admission route. Every seat JCECEB fills goes through NEET merit and counselling. Because of this, treat each college and seat type as a separate choice. Our deemed vs private comparison helps if you are weighing MCC deemed seats against Jharkhand private seats.

Who can apply

First, you must qualify NEET UG 2026. The qualifying scores are:

  • General/EWS: 50th percentile (213 marks)
  • General PwD: 45th percentile (194 marks)
  • SC, ST, OBC and their PwD: 40th percentile (177 marks)

In addition, you must be at least 17 years old on 31 December 2026. You must also pass Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English. Finally, your name must appear on JCECEB’s state merit list.

Jharkhand domicile rules for NEET

State quota seats are for local residents of Jharkhand. For these seats, you need a valid local resident certificate from a Jharkhand authority. However, students from other states can still apply to JCECEB. They compete for the All India category and NRI seats in private colleges.

Your situationWhat to check
You hold a Jharkhand local resident certificateThe NEET, age and document rules, then your category certificate
Your family moved to Jharkhand recentlyWhether you can get a local certificate under state policy
You live outside JharkhandPrivate college All India category seats and MCC routes
Your parent or sponsor is an NRIThe NRI application, sponsor papers and fees

For example, Riya lives in Ranchi and holds a Jharkhand local certificate. She can try for state quota seats and private college seats. Her cousin in Patna has no Jharkhand certificate. He can still try for private college All India category seats through JCECEB, plus MCC seats. If your case is unclear, ask JCECEB before you fill choices. Our guide on state quota counselling explains how to read such rules.

Reservation and category documents

Jharkhand’s reservation covers ST, SC, BC-I, BC-II and EWS. The usual state shares are below. The 2026 seat matrix gives the exact seats in each college.

CategoryUsual share
ST26%
SC10%
BC-I8%
BC-II6%
EWS10%
  • ST, SC, BC-I and BC-II: Get a certificate from a Jharkhand officer not below Sub-Divisional Officer (Civil) level. BC-I and BC-II candidates also need non-creamy layer status.
  • EWS: Get an income and asset certificate from a Jharkhand officer of the same level.
  • PwD: In 2026, JCECEB accepted certificates from RIMS Ranchi and the Civil Surgeon, Deoghar. The notice lists the disability types it allows.
  • Jharkhand reserved categories only: A caste certificate from another state does not give you a Jharkhand reserved seat.

On 13 July 2026, JCECEB also asked students to update these certificates and their Aadhaar details early. Your name, date of birth and other details must match on every document.

How registration and choice filling work

The process follows these steps:

  • Apply online for the NEET (UG) 2026 state merit list on the JCECEB portal.
  • Pay the application fee and the counselling fee.
  • Upload your documents in the set format.
  • Check your name and rank on the state merit list.
  • Fill and lock your college choices within the deadline.
  • Download your allotment letter if you get a seat.

Keep in mind that in Jharkhand MBBS counselling, a merit list rank is not a seat. Likewise, an uploaded certificate is not yet an accepted one.

Worked example of choice ordering. Suppose you want RIMS Ranchi most. Next, you prefer two other government colleges. A private college fits your budget only in the state quota. Your list could look like this:

  • RIMS Ranchi, state quota.
  • Government College B, state quota.
  • Government College C, state quota.
  • Private College D, state quota.

Do not add Private College D’s NRI seat just to make the list longer. After all, a seat you cannot pay for is not a backup. Our college predictor can help you shortlist.

Rounds and exit rules

Jharkhand’s rules are not the same as MCC’s. For this reason, MCC’s free exit and deposit rules do not carry over here.

RoundDecision to make
Round 1Which seat would you join, and would you seek an upgrade?
Round 2Is each new choice worth giving up your present seat?
Round 3This was the last upgrade round. Is your list final?
Stray vacancyCan you join every seat on your list?

In 2026, JCECEB allowed upgrades only up to Round 3. A new seat in Round 3 cancelled your earlier seat. As a result, you had to join the new one. Also, if you skip admission after an allotment, you can lose your security money. Our seat matrix guide explains vacancy lists. Our MCC security deposit guide covers MCC’s separate deposit.

How MCC and Jharkhand counselling affect each other

Jharkhand MBBS counselling and MCC counselling run side by side. However, JCECEB’s 2026 Round 3 notice set one clear rule. Say you took a state quota seat in Round 2 and then got an All India Quota seat in Round 3. You had to resign the state seat at your college by 3 October 2026. You also lost your security money. That is why you should pick your route early.

Jharkhand MBBS fees

JCECEB charges separate application and counselling fees. Where it applies, it also takes security money. The table below comes from the cited 2026 notice summary.

CategoryApplication feeCounselling fee
UR, EWS, BC-I, BC-II₹500₹1,000
SC, ST and all women₹250₹500
PwD (all categories)Check notice₹500

These fees are non-refundable. The security money differs for government and private seats. It also depends on the seat category and round, and reports quote different amounts. Before you pay, check the exact figure on your official portal or in the round notice.

For tuition, ask each college for its fee in writing. Ask for:

  • tuition for your seat type (state, All India category or NRI);
  • hostel and mess charges;
  • university, exam and other charges;
  • deposits and when you get them back;
  • any bond or surety needs.

Private fees also differ a lot between state and NRI seats. One figure rarely covers the whole college.

MBBS bond in Jharkhand

A bond can bind you during or after the course. That is why you should check it before choice filling.

LiabilityWhat to ask
Service bondIs there one, how long is it, and what if you do not serve?
DiscontinuationHow much you pay if you leave the course
Counselling security moneyWhen JCECEB keeps it

To be safe, ask your college and JCECEB for the current rule in writing. Our MBBS bond checklist lists the clauses to read.

After allotment

Follow these steps once you get a seat:

  • Download your provisional allotment letter.
  • Check the college, course and seat type on it.
  • Go to the college with original documents for verification.
  • Pay the college fee and collect the receipt.
  • Complete admission before the deadline.

Our reporting checklist helps with the joining stage.

Before you pick a portal: Find out which list you are on. It is either the Jharkhand state merit list or a separate private-college All India category list. Then use that list’s own portal and schedule. Your college, quota and security payment must all match the choice you want.
