A NEET score below 400 can be assessed only with your qualifying status, rank, category and quota. Start with those details, then compare official allotment results for the same seat pool. A marks-only college list cannot tell you where you will get MBBS admission.
This guide explains how to research your options for 2026. The process and sources were checked on 10 October 2026.
Start with your result, not a promised college
Check your scorecard to confirm that you qualified NEET in your category. Write down your All India Rank, or AIR, as well as marks. Read the entry rules for the quota you plan to claim.
Marks and ranks can change from year to year. A college linked to 380 marks in an old article may have had a different closing rank, quota or round. Keep all those labels when making a comparison.
Find the seats you can apply for
Choose the application route first. Notified deemed-university seats use MCC. State private seats use the authority named for that pool. NRI, minority and other special claims need their own proof.

Compare the same pool in past results
- Record the year and round of the result.
- Match the campus and MBBS course.
- Match the quota and category.
- Check whether the figure is AIR or another rank type.
- Keep the result’s closing rank as historical evidence.
MCC’s bulletin recommends past allotment results as a guide, with no guarantee for the current year. Start from MCC’s official UG results and notices for its process.

Leave an unanswered cell visible until you have checked it. A low past closing rank is not useful if you cannot meet the fee or joining deadline.
Make the full cost part of your shortlist
Add tuition for each fee period, required charges, hostel, food and travel. Keep refundable deposits separate. Record the amount due at joining and the funds you will have by that date.

Late rounds need an eligibility check
A vacancy in Round 3 or stray counselling may be worth researching. Before acting, check whether your current seat status allows entry. Holding a seat or failing to report after an MCC Round 3 allotment can block stray participation.

Can a college admit me directly?
For seats handled by MCC, register and use the official online allotment process. MCC also handles deemed stray seats online. A payment to an agent does not complete counselling or prove an allotment.
